Oak Hills Memorial Foundation marked the start of its October 1 fiscal year with several grants to Oak Hills Living Center. One was for a new large-screen television to use for a weekly popcorn and movie event, among other purposes. At its recent annual meeting, officers and directors elected were: Bruce Fenske, Chair; Kathy Austinson, Vice-Chair; Duane Lambrecht, Treasurer; Dale Hartman, Secretary; Shari Fischer, Lora Rahe, Josh Sabatino, Jane Steinke, and Diane Stolt. Mary Ellen Domeier serves as a Consulting Director. Outgoing Co-Chairs, Bill Koeckeritz and Dan Drugan, were each thanked for their more than nine years of service. In other business, the foundation board reviewed the over $75,000 in granting provided Oak Hills Living Center in the 2013-14 fiscal year. Much of that was through fund-raising for a handicap-accessible van.

The Foundation is preparing to launch its annual sponsoring membership appeal. Funds raised through this annual effort enable the work of the foundation to continue, thus benefitting the clients and residents of Oak Hills Living Center. Oak Hills Teams up with other facilities to offer ‘I’ll Be Me’

A red carpet event was held September 25th at the State Street Theater to preview a screening of the Glen Campbell documentary, “I’ll Be Me”.Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011.Other sponsors included Volunteers of America Sleepy Eye Campus, New Ulm Medical Center, Ridgeway and BIC.

Four of New Ulm’s service clubs recently helped narrow the gap to the fund-raising goal for a handicapped-accessible van for Oak Hills Living Center. Pictured presenting checks to (on the right) Candace Schouveillier, Oak Hills Administrator and Dan Drugan, Co-Chair of the Oak Hills Memorial Foundation Board are, (l to r) Jeff Dittrich, President, New Ulm Rotary Club, $1,440; Diane Stolt, Sertoma Club, $1,500; Rita Rohlik, Kiwanis Club, $100; New Ulm Lions Club members, John Micheel, Treasurer, Bob Schirlinger, President and Wil Burdorf, Spring Raffle Coordinator, $2,000; for a collective total of $5,040.   Other recent donations include those from Bill and Carol Koeckeritz, Bruce Fenske, Jeff and Lisa Gulden, Harold and Maxine Remme, John and Patricia Heymann, Shirley A. Wendinger, Clem and Rhony Hoffman, and Tom Groebner, bringing the total raised to $33,205 of the total target goal of $35,000. OAK HILLS VAN FUND DRIVE UPDATE

Pictured is the 2004 handicap-accessible van that Oak Hills Memorial Foundation will be purchasing with money raised in its current fund-drive. The van can transport 14 passengers (two in wheelchairs) and the driver.   Total goal for the van and its first year of operating costs is $35,000. Raised thus far is $25,305, with a remaining goal of $9,695. Contributors have been Oak Hills Memorial Foundation, $11,700 through its annual bowling event, $11,000 from Oak Hills Auxiliary, $ 720 from a Mother’s Day local church collection effort, $1,885 from the following: Steve and Debbie Akre, Allina Health participant program, Mark and Julie Peterson, Charles and Doris Griebel, Cal and Kathleen Backer, Richard and Deb Helmstetter, Kiwanis Club, Hobart and Charlotte Anderson, Mark and Sue Ullery, Charlotte Fischer, Jim and Jacalyn Schuetzle, Perry and LouAnn Meyer, Bernice and Daniel Dietz, Jerome Harmening, William and Connie Goebel, Eldor and CalVerna Wilfahrt, Roger and Carol Ryberg, Shirley Goering, Joe and Janet Platz, and the Lorraine Gulden Card Club. Easter Buffet

We are going to open a lunch buffet on Easter.  You are still welcome to reserve a room or private area for your holiday party; we just ask that all guests go through our central buffet line, which will be located in our chapel.  Trays and carts will be available for easy transfer.  Tables will also be set up in the chapel if you do not have a reservation elsewhere.  Buffet cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids (12 and under).  Residents have the choice to get their food from their household or go through the buffet (for free).  Food choices will be the same. This price is utilized to cover food cost and extra labor needed to serve and prepare this large meal.  Reservations are appreciated.  Please make your reservation to Jessie W, 507-233-0814. 

The Menu will be: Salad Bar, Ham, Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes/Gravy, Scalloped Potatoes, Corn, Glazed Carrots, Dinner Roll, Layer Cake

Fat Tuesday parade!

To celebrate Fat Tuesday, our residents will be having a Mardi Gras parade and party.  We will learn about the tradition behind the holiday.  Here is a picture from last year’s party.  A great time is sure to be had by all.  Anyone who would like to join us is welcome or if anyone is willing to help with the party, please contact Rachal at 233-0819.  It will be FUN!!

A special thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2014 Bowling Fundraiser.  The 11th annual Oak Hills Bowling Classic Fundraiser was held at Concordia Lanes in New Ulm on Monday, Feb 10th.  Bowlers from area businesses raise funds for a handicapped-accessible van or bus during. The event features a live and silent auction as well as bowling.
