Three daybeds were recently purchased by Oak Hills Living Center for the benefit of families who wish to stay in a hospice room with their loved one. The purchase was made possible by a $3,591 grant to the Oak Hills Memorial Foundation from New Ulm Medical Center Foundation from funds designated for hospice care. Pictured with one of the daybeds are Carissa Buegler, Executive Director of New Ulm Medical Center Foundation; Candas Schouvieller, Administrator, Oak Hills Living Center; and Dr. Dan Drugan, Co-Chair, Oak Hills Memorial Foundation Board of Directors.

Summer Sunshine

Despite the bitter cold temperatures outside, we remember the warmth of the sun this past summer.  The nice weather always brings people together.  We hope old man winter passes quickly!

Fair Time

Lucy Macho and Orvie SwensonIt’s that time of year again!  Fair Season!!  The Great Minnesota Get Together kicks off this week.  And while we couldn’t make a trip up to the Twin Cities, we could make the trip to the Brown County Fairgrounds!  Since the fairgrounds are only a few blocks away, we decided to walk there.  However, we got caught in a passing rain shower!  The rain didn’t last and we continued on.  Residents had a great time sampling fair food, seeing the animals and listening to music.  This will definitely be an annual event!

Family Fun Night

We will be having our very first Family Fun Night this Thursday, June 13th!  (Please note that this is a date change from any original advertising that we did–the forecast looks a little rainy!)

The National Guard obstacle course will be here for anyone to try out and the Oak Hills teams will be competing at 6pm.  There will be food and games for purchase to benefit Relay for Life.  George’s Pound will be here providing music.  It is sure to be an evening of fun!!

Bring the whole family out to enjoy some summer weather.  Please bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket

Oak Hills Dining

The dining experience at Oak Hills is quite different than the traditional dietary department.  Our residents have an “open breakfast”, that is, breakfast is served anywhere from 7:30am to 10:30am in the morning.  Our staff is able to prepare most any breakfast item that a resident may order.  Lunch and dinner also have several meal options for the residents to choose from and we can accommodate many special requests.  It doesn’t stop there; the second Friday of the month is designated for “Fine Dining”.  We put linens out on the tables, enjoy happy hour before the meal and then serve and upscale meal often consisting of shrimp, prime rib, etc. Resident’s family members and guests are encouraged to join us but please RSVP to the resident’s household coordinator.

Oak Hills also offers catering.  We can cater any event; large or small.  We have catered everything from weddings to graduations to family reunions.  For more information regarding our catering, please contact Jessie Weisbrich.

Spring is Here!

FriendsWe hope that all of our Residents, family and staff had a wonderful Easter.  We are all looking forward to warmer weather.  There are signs of spring everywhere—the snow is mostly melted, the robins are out and the days are getting longer.  We can’t wait to get outside for some fresh air!  We encourage all family and visitors to visit with residents outside to soak up some sun!

Bake Sale

The Oak Hills Auxiliary is having their annual spring bake sale this Saturday, March 23rd.  The sale will be from 9:30am-11:00am in the Chapel at Oak Hills.  There will be many baked goods to purchase and a raffle with some great items to bid on.  The Easter Bunny will be here so bring your camera and get pictures of your kids with the Bunny!
