Exciting Remodel Underway at Oak Hills Living Center
We have some exciting news to share about the ongoing construction at our skilled nursing facility, Oak Hills. We are in the midst of a comprehensive remodel project, which began on September 3rd, following months of careful planning and funding allocation. This initiative was made possible by the highly competitive Moratorium Exception process from the Department of Human Services and the state of Minnesota.
This large-scale construction venture will span 18 months, with a projected completion date of March 2026. Please bear with us through this period of transformation, as we strive to enhance the living conditions and services for our residents. Rest assured, we'll keep you updated with our progress every step of the way.

Some highlights you can look forward to after the construction include:
- Total revamping of household living rooms, dining, and activity areas.
- New commercial range and hood system for improved quality of dining.
- Upgrades to bathing rooms, aimed at creating a spa-like atmosphere.
- Enhanced lighting design in all resident rooms.
- Expanded and renovated resident bathrooms for better storage and circulation.
- Central activity room equipped with a kitchenette and outdoor patio access.
- Upgraded fire alarm system in tune with current codes and standards.
- Replacement of the 1995 windows with insulated vinyl alternatives for improved energy efficiency.
- Improved HVAC system for better air quality.
- Advanced nurse call system to leverage modern technology for better staff communication and resident care.
Addressing Community Needs Through Our Remodel Initiative
These are just some of the outreaches of this remodel venture. The upgrade is a vital part of our continual endeavor to reinvest in our community and boost the availability of skilled nursing beds in New Ulm and surrounding regions.
The importance of this project is underpinned by the significant demand for long-term beds, with a waitlist of 101 females and 90 males. The closures of nursing homes in Redwood Falls, Fairfax, Winthrop, and Arlington further exacerbate this need.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this transformation. We are excited to take these steps towards improving our facilities and services to better serve our residents and community.
Under the Branches of the Sturdy Oak Tree, You are Home.
A welcoming community awaits where health, dignity & well-being are priorities.
